SUMMARY:COP 27 GWEC Wind and Solar Pavilion: Enabling a renewable energy workforce and models for financing on the Just and Equitable Transition
DESCRIPTION:There are two main components to this conversation\, the people and the finance required to make the just and equitable energy transition happen. Diversity\, equity and inclusion is essential to consider when ensuring a just and equitable energy transition. Achieving a gender balance and widening the talent pool to be more inclusive of women in the energy transition will give us a higher chance of meeting net zero. \nBarriers still exist and so we need to engage in a dialogue about how we can facilitate a more inclusive workforce and allow a workforce transformation to drive the scale of change required to reach net zero. South Africa has taken a proactive approach to initiating dialogue on the Just Transition and recently led the way for finance models to support this as they launched the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). The USD8.5 million in funding dedicated to supporting the Just Transition is an enabling tool which could help countries to ensure a Just Transition. \nThis session will explore what can be learnt from this model and how we craft other financing models to support a Just Energy Transition. It will also look at how other countries may want to do the same and if so how impactful a policy measure like this is. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\nPresenters and Panellists: \n\nGiles Dickson\, CEO\, WindEurope\nChris Antonopoulos\, CEO\, Lekela Power\nElbia Gannoum\, CEO\, Abeeolica\nRabia Ferroukhi\, Director KPFC\, IRENA\nDipak Patel\, Head Climate Finance and Innovation South Africa Presidential Climate Commission\nRachel McEwen\, Chief Sustainability Officer\, SSE\nEric Oechslin\, Decent Work Country Team/Country Office Director ILO Cairo
