SUMMARY:Hybrid offshore wind projects: optimising energy flows across Europe
DESCRIPTION:Offshore hybrid projects – in which the development and implementation of offshore wind and interconnection capacity is combined linking more than one country are already developing. Such cooperation offers many advantages\, from optimising money and space to enabling energy flows across Europe. \nThere are also a number of uncertainties due to high investments\, project’s duration and overall coordination. While the Commission’s proposal for a revised TEN-E regulation supports a more coordinated strategic approach for the deployment of offshore wind grids\, a comprehensive regulatory framework is needed for those hybrid projects. \nOur speakers will discuss the opportunities in terms of cooperation\, with a focus on the hybrid projects in the North Sea. The North Sea is already producing vast quantities of offshore wind and\, according to WindEurope scenario\, has the potential to reach up to 212 GW by 2050. \nNational Grid\, Elia and WindEurope will explain how a coordinated approach will enable facing the challenges of offshore grid development and how a robust regulatory framework will support grid developers and investors. \nWe count on all our guests in the audience for a fruitful energy discussion!
