SUMMARY:COP 27 GWEC Wind and Solar Pavilion: How can the public and private sector finance the transition away from coal towards renewables? The challenge of implementation in Asia
DESCRIPTION:This session will explore successful coal transitions and look towards how the public and private sector can finance and create the political buy-in for the transition away from coal and towards renewables in Asia. This will be an opportunity to facilitate knowledge exchange so that coal-dependent jurisdictions can implement innovative decarbonization pathways. This session would also showcase effective examples of public finance being targeted to mobilise large-scale private finance in renewables\, either via fossil fuel phaseout programmes\, innovation grants\, tariff support\, or otherwise. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\nOpening Remarks: \n\nJulia Skorupska\, Head\, Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA) Secretariat\nMichael Hannibal\, Partner\, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners\n\nKeynote Presentation: \n\nRamesh Subramaniam\, Director General\, ADB Southeast Asia\n\nPanellists: \n\nMichael Hannibal\, Partner\, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners\nMartin Pibworth\, Chief Commercial Director\, SSE\nBen Backwell\, CEO\, Global Wind Energy Council\nJonathan Cole\, CEO\, Corio Generation\n\nHost and Moderator: \n\nSonia Dunlop\, Programme Lead\, Public Banks and MDBs\, E3G

SUMMARY:COP 27 GWEC Wind and Solar Pavilion: Supply Chain Resilience & Scaling the Business
DESCRIPTION:This session explores how to improve the business model and relationship between actors along the supply chain\, including developers\, manufacturers\, and financiers. As the cost of renewables is falling\, we look at what the supply chain is up against and discuss the challenges that lie ahead. Supply chain stability is essential if the market for renewable energy is to grow at exponential rates in the lead up to 2050. How do we avoid a “race to the bottom” in costs and procurement? Are we on-track to secure the necessary commodities and critical minerals to deliver a net zero pathway by 2050\, in terms of trade barriers\, production and sustainability? \n
