However, last year has seen the lowest historic volumes of new investment in the last decade. This has a knock-on effect on the EU’s ability to reach its full potential, which in case of the Baltic region is estimated to more than 93 GW by 2050. The first Baltic offshore projects will come online within the next few years and will gradually contribute to the decarbonisation of Baltic power systems, but to reach ambitious EU climate targets it is important to keep the pace with the next projects in the pipeline.

The ongoing work on the electricity market design and net-zero industrial act can help to accelerate Europe’s clean energy transition and to mitigate future crises. This conference will take stock of the current state of the offshore wind development in the Baltic region one year after the historic Marienborg Declaration. It will discuss how policymakers can help project developers to implement ambitious offshore plans in the region by addressing these questions:

1. What kind of regulatory framework on the EU and the member states’ level is needed for existing and new offshore projects?

2. Which incentives are needed to enable new offshore investments and help the EU reach its targets?

3. How can the European industry contribute to this task with a benefit for European economy and citizens?

4. How should we manage interdependencies between the decarbonisation of industry and the deployment of renewables?

Agenda:

15.00-15.30 Welcome drinks & registration

15.30-15.40 Welcome by Andrzej Sadoś, Permanent Representative of Poland to the EU

15.40-15.50 Keynote by Wanda Buk, Vice-President for Regulatory Affairs, PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna

15.50-17.00 Panel debate moderated by Matthew James, Publisher, EnergyPost.EU:

• Thor-Sten Vertmann, Member of Cabinet of Kadri Simson, EU Commissioner for Energy

• Benedikt Herges,
Head of European Government Affairs, Siemens Energy

• Małgosia Bartosik, Deputy CEO, WindEurope

• Adolfo Aiello, Deputy Director General, European Steel AssociationEUROFER

• Arkadiusz Sekściński, CEO, PGE Baltica

17.00-18.00 Reception

Offshore wind development’s potential for accelerating clean energy transition has now been widely recognised in Europe.
