On 11-12 October 2021, the international offshore wind industry conference “2nd edition Baltic Offshore Wind Transmission” will be held in Warsaw, Poland. During this event, BalticWind.EU will host debates with representatives from offshore wind investors as well as ENTSO-E. This is an excellent opportunity to examine grid infrastructure development plans for offshore wind in the Baltic Sea.

The “Baltic Offshore Wind Transmission” conference is already the second edition of this important event for the international Baltic Sea community. The Baltic countries have announced ambitious plans to accelerate offshore wind energy development, often committing themselves to closer cooperation, e.g. under the Baltic Declaration initiated by Poland.

Countries will face challenges in constructing grid infrastructure for offshore wind energy as the number of wind farms connected to electricity systems increases. The Baltic transmission grid operators have already made efforts to develop common grid planning rules. Therefore, the conference organised by Global Transmission is an excellent opportunity to take stock of the effects of cooperation and efforts to build the Baltic transmission infrastructure.

Global Transmission’s 2nd edition of the Baltic Offshore Wind Transmission Conference will take place on October 11-12, 2021 at The Westin in Warsaw. The two-day event will feature live discussion sessions focusing on topics such as policies, strategies and plans of governments, operators and developers. Also on the agenda will be certification challenges, flexible interconnection solutions, regional cooperation, system integration, grid asset management, transmission technologies and financing of offshore wind projects.

Representatives from politics, business, finance and science will share insights on plans, opportunities and technological solutions for developing the offshore wind sector and related transmission infrastructure in the Baltic Sea region. Among the guests will be Daiva Garbaliauskaitė – Deputy Minister of Energy of Lithuania and Timo Tatar – Deputy Secretary General for Energy at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications of Estonia, Anna Moskwa – Director, Offshore Wind Projects of PKN Orlen, Iris Baldursdottir – Advisor to ENTSO-E, Alfredo Parres – SVP, Industry Network Leader Renewables at Hitachi ABB Power Grids, Grzegorz Rabsztyn – Head of EIB Group Office in Poland, and Wojciech Hann – President of the Management Board of BOŚ Bank.

Speakers in the TSO perspective session include Wojciech Lubicki – Chief of Engineering Department, Central Investment Unit at PSE, Getlyn Denks – Director of the Offshore Grid Programme at Elering, Thomas Köbinger – Advisor to 50Hertz Transmission, and Niclas Broman, Head of Construction – Substations at Svenska kraftnät.

Senior officials representing leading Global and European offshore wind development organisations will also be speaking at the event. They include Michael Prutsch – Head of Portfolio Baltics at Ørsted, Maciej Stryjecki – Head of Offshore Wind Development at Polenergia, Jakub Budzyński – Stakeholder Manager at RWE Renewables,

Peter Tornberg – Head of Development and Acquisition at OX2, and Tadas Navickas – Managing Director at Sunly. Full list of speakers: HERE.

We are also pleased to announce that representatives from BalticWind.EU will be attending the event. Our platform’s Managing Director Paweł Wróbel will moderate two discussions – on emerging challenges in transmission infrastructure development and on the role of cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region.
