PGE Baltica will be advised by “ENERGOPROJEKT-KATOWICE” SA in the preparation of the purchase documentation and during the tender procedure for the general contractor for the onshore connection to the Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 offshore wind farms, informs PGE Baltica, a subsidiary of Poland’s largest power producer.

The agreement with “ENERGOPROJEKT-KATOWICE” company was concluded by PGE Baltica company from PGE Group. As part of the cooperation, documentation will be prepared for export cable lines in the onshore area, tele-technical canalization for fiber optic lines and onshore transformer stations with connection to the infrastructure of the Transmission Network Operator.

– The national consultant selected in the tender will prepare documentation that will be the key element of the next procurement procedure for selection of the general contractor for construction of the onshore connection for the power plants Baltica 2 and Baltica 3. They will reach a total installed capacity of approx. 2.5 GW, and we plan to start their exploitation within the next five years – said Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of the Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.

He adds that it is a good signal for the domestic market that even at the investment preparation consulting stage PGE will cooperate with the domestic company. – In this way, we realize our goal of engaging and encouraging Polish companies in the construction of offshore wind farms – added Dąbrowski.

– In accordance with its strategy, Energoprojekt-Katowice treats participation in offshore wind farm projects as one of the key directions of the company’s development. The opportunity for our company to participate in the development of procurement documentation and advice during the tendering process for the general contractor for the onshore connection to the Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 offshore wind farms is a very important step in this direction. We believe that choosing our company – a Polish one with long traditions and extensive experience in the broadly defined power engineering market – will guarantee the success of this undertaking,” said Łukasz Grela, President of the Board, General Director of “ENERGOPROJEKT-KATOWICE” SA.

According to the schedule, the commissioning of the first phase of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm project, Baltica 3 with a capacity of up to 1045.5 MW, is scheduled for 2026. The next phase, Baltica 2 with up to 1,497 MW of capacity, is expected to be operational in 2027. Both stages of the Baltica OWF have location decisions (PSzW), environmental decisions for the offshore part, transmission grid connection agreements with the operator, and have been granted the right to a Contract for Difference (CfD). This year, project partners PGE Baltica and Ørsted expect to receive an environmental decision for the onshore transmission portion of the project, and will begin work on obtaining construction permits. This is the last permit required before a final investment decision is made.
