PGE Baltica, the company responsible for the implementation of the PGE Group’s Offshore Programme, will be a partner in the 6th edition of the Offshore Wind Energy postgraduate studies conducted at the Gdańsk University of Technology. A letter of intent signed with university authorities on Thursday, 8 September 2022, paves the way for other, further forms of cooperation that will benefit the competence centre for offshore wind energy being created by PGE.

“The offshore wind energy sector in Poland will be one of the most dynamically developing in the entire Polish economy only if the capabilities and competences of scientific centers can be effectively combined with industry and business in this field”, said Professor Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of the Gdańsk University of Technology. “This cooperation looks good, but it should be even closer and more integrated. Offshore wind energy is the future and a promise we are making to the next generation and the planet. We must do everything in our power to keep it”, he added.

“We are already connected with Gdańsk University of Technology through research and development projects, as well as cooperation in the implementation of a specialization in the design and construction of offshore energy systems for master’s degree programs in ocean engineering”, said Dariusz Locinski, CEO of PGE Baltica. “However, we want to make the most of the potentialof this cooperation, especially in training the personnel so needed by our industry. That’s why we decided to get involved in the offshore wind energy postgraduate program, which has been in existence for several years and already has a good reputation. We are committed to long-term cooperation with the university. We are already talking about creating another, more profiled offshore postgraduate course. Also, there are opportunities for cooperation, among others, with engineering studies, training courses, workshops, jointly organized study visits for high school students, i.e. future students, and further joint scientific and research initiatives related to projects carried out offshore by the PGE Group”, added the PGE Baltica president.

Agreement on close cooperation between PG and PGE

PGE Baltica cooperates with universities and scientific institutions both in training personnel for the offshore wind energy sector and in joint scientific and research projects for its own ventures – offshore wind farms built in the Baltic Sea. The ceremonial signing of the agreement between PGE and PG took place on Thursday, September 8, in the Senate Room of the Gdańsk University of Technology.

“Postgraduate studies in Offshore Wind Energy are conducted at the Institute of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology, Gdańsk University of Technology, said Prof. PG Marek Dzida, Director of the postgraduate OWE program. “We were the first university in Poland to launch this type of postgraduate program, responding to the demand of the Polish energy sector. Starting with the autumn edition, PGE Baltica management representatives will also be among the lecturers.

The offshore wind energy postgraduate program is conducted within the framework of the personnel competency development program for the offshore wind energy sector. During the completed editions, so far approx. 220 people attended the programme. Their sixth edition begins in October.

The study partner is the Polish Offshore Wind Energy Society, based in Gdynia.
