PGE Baltica, a company belonging to the PGE Group, has signed an agreement with Korporacja Budowlana DORACO for the construction of an operations and maintenance base in Ustka. The state-of-the-art facility will be a key service facility for offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea. Construction work is scheduled to begin this spring.

– The signing of an agreement by PGE with the contractor for the operations and maintenance base is another milestone in our plans for offshore wind energy development in the Baltic. The port in Ustka is the heart of the entire offshore wind energy production management system, without which farms such as Baltica 2 could not operate efficiently. We have engaged the renowned Polish construction company DORACO, which has extensive experience in hydrotechnical projects, to carry out this investment. It is another entity from Pomerania participating in the construction of the operations and maintenance base. In this way, we are maintaining 100 per cent participation of national contractors in our Ustka project – said Dariusz Marzec, CEO of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.

– Our many years of experience in the implementation of hydro-engineering projects will be used in such a strategic investment, which supports the development of the Polish offshore industry. It is a great satisfaction for us to be able to contribute to the country’s energy transformation using our hydrotechnical knowledge and practice. Cooperation with PGE Baltica is also an opportunity to engage many Polish companies as subcontractors, which is an important part of our strategy. We are enthusiastically embarking on the construction of the base in Ustka, believing that we will create a foundation that will foster the further development of offshore wind energy in the Baltic. What was still in the design phase yesterday will begin to take engineering shape from today. We look forward to further investments that will use local content to such a large extent, which is a worthy example in the market – said Radosław Jarosiewicz, Vice President of the Management Board of Korporacja Budowlana DORACO.

The general contractor will prepare the complete project documentation and build the new facilities in the western part of the port of Ustka. Its tasks also include obtaining the legally binding permits for use.

The operations and maintenance (O&M) base, built by PGE Baltica in Ustka, will be constructed on an area of over 2.3 hectares on the site where the ‘Korab’ fish processing plant operated years ago. It will consist of an administration and staff building, a storage building, a manoeuvring area and a quay, at which special fast service vessels for the transport of crews to the area of offshore wind farms (so-called CTV – crew transfer vessel) will be moored. An internal car park is also planned. Green areas with a total area of approximately 5,500 square metres will be created around the base buildings.

PGE Baltica already has a legally binding permit for the construction of the base. Construction work is scheduled to start later this spring and be completed in Q4 2026. The first wind farm to be operated from PGE’s Ustka base will be the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm, which PGE is building in the Baltic Sea together with the Danish company Ørsted. It is due to be commissioned in 2027. In addition to its future service function, the Ustka base will provide facilities during the construction of this offshore wind farm. From Ustka, teams of workers will depart to support the construction process.
