WindEurope has launched a new initiative aimed at highlighting the growth of the European wind supply chain. The industry, which plays a pivotal role in meeting both competitiveness and energy security goals, is set to invest over €10 billion in building new factories and expanding existing sites across the continent. Through the new video series, Wind Works for Europe, WindEurope is offering a closer look at these ongoing investments, showcasing the companies behind them and the technologies that will drive Europe’s renewable energy future.
The series features key investments from across the European wind supply chain, from blades and towers to substations and cables. Each episode includes expert insights from industry leaders, who take viewers on a tour of manufacturing facilities and explain how these investments are contributing to a more competitive and energy-secure Europe.
The first episode of Wind Works for Europe takes us to Gdańsk, Poland, where WindEurope CEO Giles Dickson meets with Jakub Wnuczyński, CEO of Baltic Towers. Baltic Towers is in the final stages of constructing a new offshore wind tower factory in Gdańsk, with an investment totaling over €200 million. Established in 2023 as a joint venture between the Polish Industrial Development Agency and the Spanish company GRI Renewable Industries, Baltic Towers is poised to become a key player in Europe’s offshore wind sector.
The factory, located on Ostrow Island in Gdańsk, spans 6.2 hectares and will have the capacity to produce more than 150 towers annually. The facility’s production halls are designed to accommodate the manufacturing of towers weighing up to 500 tonnes and measuring up to 50 meters in length. This investment not only strengthens the Polish supply chain for offshore wind energy but also plays a crucial role in the country’s energy transition.
In addition to its scale, the factory will create around 500 new jobs, contributing to the local community and supporting the training of future technical staff. This initiative also reflects Poland’s growing role in the European offshore wind market, positioning the country as an important hub for renewable energy production and innovation.
As the series progresses, future episodes will continue to explore other significant investments and their impact on the wind energy sector across Europe.
