With its cast renewable energy resource wealth and land space, Africa has a chance to become a frontrunner in this burgeoning green hydrogen industry, creating zero-emission jobs, domestic energy supplies and export revenues fit for a decarbonised future.

This session seeks to highlight the significant potential for green hydrogen in Africa, discuss how governments and citizens stand to benefit from green hydrogen production and use, and what needs to be done to ensure that host countries and communities benefit the domestic economy by generating government revenues, supporting industrial policies, securing renewable energy supply and creating green jobs.

It will present insights from a study undertaken by McKinsey for the African Green Hydrogen Alliance on the green hydrogen potential in the six founding Alliance member countries (Egypt, Kenya, Mauritania, Morocco, Namibia and South Africa). The study will be launched at COP27 on Energy Day.
