Warsaw, 28 October 2025 – Amazon today confirmed the signing of agreements to purchase nearly 200 MW of renewable energy from two solar farms and one wind farm in the provinces of Opole, West Pomerania and Lublin from R.Power and OX2. Amazon is constantly striving to achieve its goal of zero carbon emissions across its entire business by 2040, and carbon-free energy, such as renewable energy, is critical to reducing emissions.
Amazon’s new renewable energy projects in Poland include:
- Two photovoltaic farms – in Lasocice (Opole Province) and Recław (West Pomeranian Province) – with a total capacity of 164 MW, developed by R.Power. This agreement is one of the largest publicly announced transactions in the solar energy sector in Poland.
- One onshore wind farm in Annopol (Lublin Province), from which Amazon has purchased 28 MW of capacity. Developer OX2 began construction of the farm in August 2025, with completion planned for 2027.
By engaging in renewable energy activities, Amazon gives renewable energy project developers the confidence to build wind and solar farms, knowing that they will find a buyer for their electricity.
Once operational, these projects will provide the Polish power grid with new sources of renewable energy, contributing to the decarbonisation of the energy mix and benefiting all electricity consumers, both businesses and consumers.
Amazon supports the development of renewable energy in Poland
To date, Amazon has been involved in the launch of seven renewable energy projects in Poland, with a total capacity of 333 MW, which would be enough to power more than 230,000 Polish households per year.
These projects also support the Polish government’s goal of decarbonising the energy sector. According to Ember’s “European Electricity Review 2024” report, the share of fossil fuels in electricity production in Poland in 2024 was 57 per cent. In turn, in the National Energy and Climate Plan for 2021-2030 (KPEiK), Poland has set itself the target of achieving a 32.1 per cent share of renewable energy sources in gross final energy consumption in 2030.
By engaging in further wind and solar farm projects, Amazon is significantly increasing the amount of renewable energy available in the Polish power grid. Thanks to these activities, we can adjust energy consumption to renewable resources and support the stability of the country’s energy system,” comments Sławomir Płonka, Amazon’s regional director of operations in Central and Eastern Europe. “However, the development of renewable energy sources is not only a matter of technology, but also of responsibility for the future of local communities. We are proud to support these changes in Poland and contribute to the development of a green economy.
The agreement with Amazon, one of the largest solar energy purchase contracts announced in Poland to date, is an important milestone for R.Power and a clear signal that our long-term strategy is paying off. We are systematically expanding our operations in Europe and remain focused on becoming one of the leaders of the energy transition in the region,” says Rafał Hajduk, Chief Commercial Officer at R.Power Renewables.
“Together with Amazon, we are strongly committed to accelerating the energy transition and are delighted to expand this collaboration. With our experience, global portfolio and tailored energy solutions, OX2 is well positioned to deliver reliable, clean energy and support organisations in decarbonising their operations,” adds Mehmet Energin, Chief Investment Officer at OX2.
Amazon’s sustainable development on the Vistula River
Agreements for the purchase of carbon-free energy are just one element of Amazon’s broader efforts to promote sustainable development in Poland. The company recently announced its first Polish project under the global Right Now Climate Fund (RNCF), through which it supported the Kampinos National Park with PLN 4.3 million. The initiative, which aims to restore and protect natural ecosystems, including the restoration of wetlands and the revitalisation of 500 hectares of the Kampinos Forest, will benefit not only nature but also local communities.
In September 2024, Amazon launched its Climate Pledge Friendly programme in Poland, making it easier for customers to find and purchase products with sustainability certifications on Amazon.pl. Poles can choose from tens of thousands of products with certificates confirming that they are made from recycled materials, contain organic ingredients, use safer chemicals or are more energy efficient than similar products. What is more, Amazon – through its “Fix it yourself” store on Amazon.pl – encourages its customers not to throw away clothes or household items that can be used for many more years thanks to simple renovation.
