In his heartfelt message, Dickson expressed immense privilege in leading WindEurope and praised the wind industry as a “great industry doing wonderful things.” He extended his gratitude to WindEurope’s members for their trust and support, and to the staff for their passion and perseverance. He also acknowledged the remarkable work of everyone in the European wind sector, highlighting their efforts in operating over 100,000 wind turbines, manufacturing equipment, managing logistics, permits, and engaging local communities. Dickson emphasized wind energy’s significant contribution to Europe, now accounting for 20% of electricity consumption, reducing energy bills, creating jobs, fostering energy independence from Russian gas, and enhancing Europe’s security and competitiveness.
Giles Dickson has been a staunch advocate for the development of offshore wind in the Baltic Sea, particularly in Poland. He was a prominent figure at the Baltic Sea Offshore Wind Energy Summit 2025 in Gdansk, where he lauded Poland’s advancements in the sector. During the conference, he underscored the critical need for a strategic approach to building a robust domestic supply chain and highlighted Poland’s potential as a key European manufacturing hub for offshore wind components, contingent on sufficient investment and political backing. He commended Poland’s ambitious targets and its offshore wind supply chain development as “the best strategy we have seen for the development of offshore wind capacity across Europe.” Dickson’s commitment to the region’s offshore wind growth is well-documented, including his insights on Poland’s strategy as a potential game-changer for Europe, as previously reported by BalticWind.eu.
The Board of WindEurope will now begin the search for a new CEO, with Giles Dickson remaining in his role until the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition.
