PGE and Ørsted have signed another agreement for the production and delivery of additional secondary steel structures for the foundations of the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm. The elements will be produced in Pomerania, Poland.
Boat landing platforms and anode cages will be manufactured by the Polish company Grupa Przemysłowa Baltic (part of the ARP Group) at its factory in Gdańsk. Anode cages and boat landing structures are installed to protect the foundation from corrosion and mechanical damage. This agreement with Grupa Przemysłowa Baltic is the final part of the secondary steel scope for the Baltica 2 project.
“The signing of this agreement is another step forward for the rapidly developing Polish supply chain for offshore wind energy,” said Bartosz Fedurek, President of the Management Board of PGE Baltica. “Key components needed for the construction and subsequent safe operation of offshore wind farms will be manufactured in Poland. One of PGE’s main goals is to maximize the participation of domestic companies in both current and future offshore projects in Poland. Utilizing Polish facilities and the expertise of our specialists is another important contribution to the development of our domestic industry within the framework of a massive and strategic undertaking, which is the construction of offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea.”
“Today’s signing of an agreement with a Polish company for such an important area as secondary steel is a clear signal that the domestic supply chain can compete in the offshore wind industry,” said Ulrik Lange, Vice President and Project Director of Baltica 2, Ørsted. “This competitiveness is also important for investors as it fosters the creation of innovation, which is a key element in the development of offshore wind technology worldwide.”
“The participation of GP Baltic in the Baltica 2 project is not only a confirmation of our competencies in the production of advanced steel structures for the offshore sector, but also concrete support for the development of the Polish supply chain,” said Adam Kowalski, President of the Management Board of Grupa Przemysłowa Baltic. “We are developing the production of secondary steel structures for foundations, which play a key role in ensuring the durability and safety of offshore wind farms. We are pleased that components produced in Gdańsk will contribute to Poland’s energy transformation.”
Grupa Przemysłowa Baltic is a Polish holding company headquartered in Gdańsk, owned by the Industrial Development Agency (Agencja Rozwoju Przemysłu). It comprises Stocznia Gdańska, Energomontaż Północ-Gdynia, and Baltic Operator. Grupa Przemysłowa Baltic produces steel structures for onshore and offshore wind energy, among other things. In recent years, it has supplied external platforms for offshore wind projects in the North Sea.
The Baltica 2 project entered its offshore construction phase this year. Soon, work will begin to prepare the seabed for foundation installation and the laying of submarine cables. The construction of the onshore connection infrastructure in the Choczewo municipality has been ongoing since mid-2024. The investors – PGE and Ørsted – have already made the final investment decision for the project. They have contracted key components necessary to start the offshore construction of Baltica 2 and have signed all agreements regarding installation – foundations, cables, turbines, and offshore transformer substations. The partners possess all necessary building permits. With 107 turbines and a total capacity of 1.5 GW, the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm will significantly contribute to Poland’s energy transformation.
