22 January 2025. – The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) has granted Crist shipyard in Gdynia a loan of almost PLN 53 million for the construction of an innovative production line. This will be the first project of its kind in the offshore wind energy sector in Poland, with funding coming from the Innovations for the Environment programme (Innowacje dla Środowiska).
The funding agreement was signed on 21 January 2025 by Paweł Augustyn, Vice-President of the Management Board of NFOŚiGW. The aim of the project is to build technology to produce key components for offshore wind energy, with the aim of developing the national supply chain in this innovative sector.
– The development of offshore wind energy is one of the key areas of the Polish energy transition. Subsidising innovative technological solutions will increase the possibility of investing in large-scale renewable energy production. NFOŚiGW supports solutions that develop the domestic supply chain, which positively impacts the economy and increases the share of renewable energy sources in the Polish energy mix – says Paweł Augustyn.
The total investment cost of the Crist shipyard is over PLN 70 million, of which the NFOŚiGW loan is PLN 52.6 million. The project ‘Increasing production capacity through the construction of a technological line for innovative products in the offshore wind energy supply chain at CRIST S.A.’ (“Zwiększenie mocy produkcyjnych, poprzez budowę linii technologicznej dla innowacyjnych produktów w łańcuchu dostaw morskiej energetyki wiatrowej w CRIST S.A.”) is to be implemented by 31 December 2027.
The investment includes the construction of a production line for manufacturing components for offshore wind farms, such as:
– Offshore transformer stations – complete, fully equipped stations or parts thereof.
– Foundations for offshore wind farms, including floating foundations.
– Floating facilities for the installation or transport of offshore wind farm components to their destination.
The Innovation for the Environment programme supports companies to implement innovative technologies that contribute to climate neutrality, green transformation of the economy and sustainable development. Under the programme, it is possible to subsidise investments in the construction of technological lines or factories for the production of innovative products that improve the efficiency of natural resource use, reduce the negative impact of humans on the environment or strengthen the economy’s resilience to environmental pressures.
