As I head to Berlin for the Zukunft Offshore 2025 conference, I’m filled with anticipation and energy. Organized by the German Offshore Wind Energy Foundation (Bundesverband Windenergie Offshore – BWO), this flagship event in Berlin brings together political leaders, industry decision-makers, and researchers to shape the future of offshore wind energy in the German-speaking region—and far beyond.

Held on May 21–22 at the historic Hotel Oderberger in Berlin, Zukunft Offshore provides a unique opportunity to discuss how we can strengthen regional cooperation in the offshore sector. For me, it’s a moment to connect with German colleagues and explore how our shared North Sea and Baltic Sea ambitions can benefit from greater alignment—on policy, technology, and infrastructure.

The conference is set to tackle the most pressing economic, environmental, and security issues facing the sector today. From the EU’s Net-Zero Industry Act to sustainable offshore circular economy models and maritime emergency infrastructure, the agenda reflects a fast-evolving and increasingly strategic energy landscape.

I’m particularly looking forward to the high-level panels on:

  • European industrial policy and how it can support offshore competitiveness,

  • Cost-cutting through smarter grid and spatial planning,

  • And discussions around safeguarding offshore infrastructure in the face of hybrid threats.

Two parliamentary evening debates:

  • One on the energy policy direction of Germany’s new black-red coalition,

  • Another on maritime energy security, featuring experts from the German Institute for Defence and Strategic Studies.

This year also marks a milestone for Germany’s offshore journey: 15 years since Alpha Ventus, the country’s first offshore wind park, was connected to the grid. A special exhibition and ceremony will celebrate this achievement.

I believe that more regional dialogue, joint projects, and trust between neighboring countries are essential if we are to meet Europe’s ambitious energy targets. I’m excited to contribute to that conversation and to bring back fresh insights and connections from Berlin to support our shared clean energy future.

See you in Berlin!
