Grupa ORLEN has marked a significant milestone in the development of Poland’s first offshore wind farm, Baltic Power, with the official opening of a dedicated operations and maintenance base in Łeba. This is the first facility of its kind in Poland and signals that the project is entering its decisive implementation phase.

“As Grupa ORLEN, we are both a pioneer and a leader in the development of offshore wind energy in Poland. As early as 2026, clean electricity generated at sea will begin flowing to consumers from our Baltic Power wind farm. The land-based heart of this endeavor is the operations and maintenance base we are inaugurating today,” said Ireneusz Fąfara, President and CEO of ORLEN. “Poland must seize the potential of the Baltic Sea, which is why this is not the end of our investments in the region. The service base is key to the success of Baltic Power’s construction, and Pomerania is becoming central to the future of Polish energy,” he added.

Located on a 1.1-hectare site, the facility includes a specially reinforced quay with two cranes, a high-bay warehouse for spare parts, workshops and technical support areas, as well as berths for crew transfer vessels (CTVs), office space, and staff facilities. The same building also houses the Baltic Power Marine Coordination Center (MCC), which operates 24/7 to oversee all offshore installation and operational activities.

“This is a moment of true joy for the entire offshore wind industry in Poland – from now on, anyone walking along the port channel in Łeba can see the fully functioning infrastructure of an offshore wind farm. Declarations and plans have turned into concrete actions and tangible infrastructure,” emphasized Grzegorz Szabliński, CEO of Baltic Power.

With an estimated investment of around PLN 62 million, the base will eventually employ about 60 people. It currently supports intensive installation work 23 kilometers offshore, where monopile foundations and transition pieces are being assembled. Installation of wind turbines and subsea cables is set to begin in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, onshore cable routes and a substation are under construction in the Choczewo municipality.

Baltic Power, a joint venture between Grupa ORLEN and Canada’s Northland Power, is currently the most advanced offshore wind investment in Poland. The farm, comprising 76 turbines with a capacity of 15 MW each and covering approximately 130 km², will generate around 4,000 GWh of electricity annually. This will reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 2.8 million tons per year – a substantial contribution to Poland’s energy transition.

“In January, we announced ORLEN’s new strategy, and this is one of the first concrete elements of its implementation. We will be the first Polish company to launch an offshore wind farm,” noted Ireneusz Fąfara. “We are delivering the largest investment program in the history of Polish energy, worth up to PLN 380 billion,” he added.

The inauguration ceremony in Łeba was attended by Pomeranian Voivode Beata Rutkiewicz. The Baltic Power service base is not only an investment in infrastructure, but also a crucial development boost for the region and a tangible step toward a greener energy future for Poland.
