Danish renewable energy leader Ørsted has reported strong performance in its offshore wind operations for the first half of 2024. The company’s interim report highlights growth in this sector, signalling positive trends for the offshore wind industry.

Ørsted’s offshore sites generated earnings of DKK 11.3 billion, marking a substantial increase of DKK 2.3 billion compared to the same period last year. This growth was driven by several factors, including the ramp-up of generation at new offshore wind farms such as Greater Changhua 1 and 2a, South Fork, and Gode Wind 3. Higher wind speeds and increased prices on inflation-indexed Contracts for Difference (CfDs) also contributed to this positive performance.

Mads Nipper, Ørsted’s Group President and CEO, expressed satisfaction with the company’s offshore wind performance, leading to increased earnings expectations for this segment. In the first half of 2024, Ørsted commissioned nearly 2 GW of renewable energy capacity, a significant portion of which came from offshore wind projects.
