Seaway7 has announced the award of a substantial contract by Ørsted for the transport and installation of the inter-array cables of the Hornsea 3 offshore wind project located in the UK sector of the North Sea. Seaway7’s scope of work covers the transportation and installation (T&I) of 192 66kV inter-array cables, measuring approximately 500 kilometres in length, with offshore activities scheduled to commence in 2026.

Stuart Fitzgerald, CEO of Seaway7, commented: “With this award we look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with Ørsted. The Hornsea 3 project represents our seventh offshore wind project together, including the inter-array cables on the two previous phases of the Hornsea Wind Zone, Hornsea 1 and Hornsea 2. The award adds to our backlog and leading position in the UK, Europe’s largest offshore wind market.”

This contract follows another significant win for Seaway7 earlier this year. In March 2024, the PGE Group and Ørsted selected Seaway7 to transport and install offshore substations for the Baltica 2 project, which is part of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm – one of the largest offshore wind initiatives in Poland.

Seaway7, a world leader in offshore wind power projects, will use both crane and transport vessels to handle the installation of the four offshore substations, designed, built, and commissioned by the Semco/PTSC consortium. The Baltica 2 work is also scheduled to begin in 2026, reflecting the growing confidence in Seaway7’s expertise in the global offshore wind sector.

PGE and Ørsted have already secured all necessary components and installation contracts for the Baltica 2 project, including selecting a general contractor for the onshore connection infrastructure. With all construction permits in hand, the final step before launching the project will be the investors’ final investment decision (FID).
