Litgrid, Augstsprieguma tīkls AS and 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, the transmission System Operators (TSOs) of Lithuania, Latvia, and Germany are jointly exploring the development of a Baltic–German hybrid interconnector.

This project aims to create a direct electricity link between the Baltic States and Germany, strengthening cross-border energy security and supporting the green transition. This year, project was included in the Pan-European Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP) 2026 of ENTSO-E, marking its strategic importance and will require robust planning and coordination.

What’s new? This week, all three TSOs announced a joint procurement for a comprehensive study to identify the most suitable financial, ownership, regulatory, and governance framework for the project implementation. The results of a study will be a major milestone and a necessary building block for the project to move forward.
