On February 3, the second edition of workshops for companies from Pomerania interested in participating in the supply chain for the largest energy projects in the country took place in Gdańsk. The event was organized jointly by Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (Polish Nuclear Power Plants), PGE Baltica, and the Industrial Development Agency, under the honorary patronage of the Governor of Pomerania, Beata Rutkiewicz, and the Marshal of the Pomeranian Province, Mieczysław Struk.
– The scale of energy projects implemented in Pomerania opens up opportunities for local companies to win long-term contracts and develop new specializations. Interest in the supply chain is growing, and experience from offshore wind energy projects confirms that Polish companies are ready to participate in large energy investments. The second edition of the workshops is an example of how PGE Baltica supports the use of this potential – emphasized Piotr Dziubałtowski, Vice President of Operations, PGE Baltica.
– Our goal is to include as many Polish companies as possible, including those from Pomerania, in the supply chain during the broadly understood implementation of the nuclear investment. We can see that domestic companies not only declare their willingness to participate, but also their readiness to acquire the relevant competences or required certificates. Our task and ambition is to create a space in which the competencies of regional and national companies become an important contribution to ensuring a safe and predictable energy future for the country – said Piotr Piela, Vice-President of the Management Board of Polish Nuclear Power Plants.
– The second edition of the workshops in Pomerania shows how important the involvement of local capital, competences, and entrepreneurship is for the implementation of strategic energy investments. At the Industrial Development Agency, we actively support the process of integrating Polish companies, especially those from the region, into the supply chains of offshore and nuclear projects. We have a wide range of instruments at our disposal, from financing and consulting to access to infrastructure – to help entrepreneurs prepare to participate in these groundbreaking projects for the Polish energy sector – said Krzysztof Telega, Vice-President of the Management Board of the Industrial Development Agency S.A.
Participants in the event learned about a wide range of financial and development instruments, including: development funds and loans available from national and regional institutions, support programs for companies planning to enter the offshore and nuclear energy sectors, as well as advisory tools and initiatives to facilitate increased competitiveness. Of particular interest were the real estate and investment land offers prepared by economic zones and local governments, aimed at entrepreneurs planning to develop their businesses in Pomerania.
Representatives of institutions supporting the region’s economic development presented their solutions for strengthening the participation of domestic companies in offshore wind projects and the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Lubiatowo-Kopalino: the Industrial Development Agency, the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone, the Pomerania Development Agency, the Pomeranian Development Fund, the Polish Investment and Trade Agency, the Marshal’s Office of the Pomeranian Province, InvestGda, and Rumia Invest Park.
The workshops were held at the Marshal’s Office of the Pomeranian Province, which has been actively supporting the development of local business and building the competence of companies operating both in the region and at the national level for many years.
– I would like to thank the Industrial Development Agency, the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone, the Pomerania Development Agency, the Pomeranian Development Fund, and the Polish Investment and Trade Agency, as well as InvestGda and Rumia Invest Park for co-creating such an event, such a platform for cooperation and exchange of information. I am also pleased that PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna and Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe, as one of the main energy investors in Pomerania and leaders of the Polish energy transition, are aware of the importance of cooperation with local and regional communities. Thanks to cooperation with business environment institutions and the administration—the Marshal’s Office of the Pomeranian Province—exemplary standards for building relationships with the business environment are also being set. Any initiative that strengthens the potential of the regional economy will meet with my support as a representative of the central authorities in the field – said Beata Rutkiewicz, Governor of the Pomeranian Province.
– Today’s workshop is a continuation of the previous meeting on contractual requirements, standards, and warranty solutions for large investments. It is good that we are returning to this topic, because the energy transition is a marathon that is won through consistency and preparation. Today, Pomerania covers approximately 65% of its energy needs from its own production, and the share of renewable energy sources is growing. In the coming years, the balance will be changed by offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea and the nuclear power plant currently under construction. Nuclear, offshore, grids, energy storage, and hydrogen are not separate projects. It is a single, coherent process of rebuilding the energy system and building security. The key is local content understood in practical terms: the participation of Pomeranian companies in the design, construction, services, maintenance, and upkeep of infrastructure. These are real contracts, jobs, and skills built here, in the region – said Leszek Bonna, Deputy Marshal of the Pomeranian Province.
