Poland has just been given the chance not only to catch up with the European leaders, but also to co-create a wind industry for the entire continent. ‘We will not develop the Polish economy if we do not have access to cheap and green energy’ – said Michał Jaros, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Technology, at the launch of the Polish offshore wind industry development strategy. Today, the wind is blowing in Poland’s sails – this is the moment to take bold, strategic decisions and build a strong national value chain around wind energy. It is not only an opportunity for cheap, clean energy, but a flywheel for the entire Polish economy – from industry to innovation. How to use it to make Poland a leader in the green transformation in Europe? This is what the key players in the sector will be discussing on 10-12 June in Świnoujście, during the 20th anniversary PWEA2025 Conference.
Green energy is today a real driver of the economy, technology and energy security. However, for this to happen, a long-term and robust strategy is needed, which will set the right direction, tools and cooperation framework for building a competitive wind industry in Poland. Such a document has been prepared by the Polish Wind Energy Association and the Wind Industry Hub Foundation (WIH), proving that our country has the necessary competences for wind energy to develop based on indigenous resources.
Michał Jaros, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Development and Technology, spoke about the key role of our own RES sources in building the Poland of tomorrow. In his opinion, the domain of strong and modern economies today is green and cheap electricity, which we can have in abundance in Poland thanks to wind energy.
– The Polish economy can draw competitive advantages, but knowledge, new competences and new technologies are needed. We will not develop the Polish economy if we do not have access to cheap and green energy. This is the most important – appealed Michał Jaros, Deputy Minister of Development and Technology.
– The investment campaign in offshore wind farms is not comparable to any other development project in contemporary Poland. Let’s talk about the scale of the PLN 300 billion investment outlay in the 2040 perspective. This programme is proof of Polish ambition and courage in the pursuit of modernity. If we add further billions of investment in onshore wind energy, we get a picture of the largest energy transformation project in the country’s history – a development impulse that can not only modernise the Polish economy, but also ensure its competitiveness for decades, lower electricity bills and create thousands of jobs in the industries of the future – says Janusz Gajowiecki, President of the Polish Wind Energy Association.
Onshore and offshore wind energy is a source of energy generation, in the development of which Europe should and can rely on local technological and generation capacities. In the opinion of Deputy Minister Jaros, it is the development of RES that has the potential to become a major economic change, conditioning the development of European industry. And this will largely be a task for Poland.
The scale of investment in Polish offshore wind farms reaches PLN 300 billion by 2040. Taking into account the billions more of investment in onshore wind energy, we get the largest energy transformation project in the country’s history, which will ensure the competitiveness of the Polish economy, GDP growth, cheaper electricity and new jobs, thus strengthening the electricity system in the entire EU.
– We are on the best path to build this sector of the economy. But we also need to build the full value chain, which will be necessary to coordinate actions also at the legal level. I treat this paper as an expert voice and a substantive foundation for how we can build these state planning processes. Effective use of the potential that lies in this document is crucial for us. It is a very important strategy. But any strategy will be good when it is implementable – stressed Deputy Minister Michał Jaros and announced his ministry’s readiness to continue working on the implementation of the strategy.
The 20th PWEA2025 Conference is one of the most important political events of the year, providing a key reference point for the debate on the future of Europe and Poland’s place in the new security architecture. In the face of increasing geopolitical tensions, energy transition and rivalry between global powers, the conference brings together political leaders, experts and decision-makers from home and abroad to jointly set the course of action for a stronger, more integrated European Union.
The importance of the event goes beyond the expert dimension – it is a strategic platform for dialogue about Poland’s responsibility for the security of the community, energy solidarity and active participation in shaping European policy. In a trying time, it is Poland that has the chance to become one of the pillars of European stability and transformation.
Key decision-makers, experts and leaders of the Polish energy transition will meet to discuss key regulations and tools supporting the development of wind energy in Poland. Their participation in the event has been announced by, among others, Jerzy Buzek – Chairman of the Advisory Team for Energy Security to the Polish Presidency of the EU, Miłosz Motyka – Deputy Minister for Climate and Environment, Grzegorz Onichimowski – President of PSE, Piotr Otawski – Director General of GDOŚ and Giles Dickson – CEO of WindEurope.
