The 2nd Offshore Connect Conference, set to begin on October 17th in Rostock, will bring together key players from politics, business, and science to accelerate the expansion of offshore wind energy in the Baltic Sea. With a focus on dismantling hurdles, fostering innovative solutions, and addressing the skilled worker shortage, the event aims to harness the region’s vast potential for a secure, clean, and affordable energy supply.

Dr. Wolfgang Blank, Minister for Economy, Infrastructure and Tourism, states: “We will only achieve the expansion targets for offshore wind energy together. The Offshore Connect in Rostock is the place where we strengthen important connections between politics, business, and science. This is about dismantling hurdles, finding innovative solutions, and setting the pace we need for a secure, clean, and affordable energy supply. Our common goal is to resolutely harness the power and potential of the Baltic Sea wind.”

This year’s conference partner, the OFFSHORE WIND ENERGY Foundation, represented by Managing Director Karina Würtz, will discuss the Maritime Future Concept M.-V. The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH), along with Baltic Sea wind farm operators and developers, the responsible transmission system operator 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, and other high-calibre experts, will present currently relevant topics related to the expansion of Baltic Sea wind. The conference will start with an Offshore Wind Dinner during a Baltic Sea cruise on the eve, at the end of the Offshore Connect Recruiting Day on Thursday, October 16.

There is a lack of skilled workers in both the maritime and offshore wind industries. The NEPTUN WERFT (Neptun Shipyard) will open its gates for the Offshore Connect one day earlier, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., for interested applicants in Rostock. Offshore wind and maritime companies and supporters including Dipl.-Ing. H. Sitte GmbH & Co. KG, Neptun Werft, NEPTUN SMULDERS Engineering GmbH, AFZ Aus- und Fortbildungszentrum Rostock GmbH, IHK zu Rostock, Universität Rostock, EEW SPECIAL PIPE CONSTRUCTIONS GmbH, BWTS GmbH, GRIMEDIO Arbeitsmedizin, 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, Reederei F. Laeisz G.m.b.H., and Amprion GmbH, will introduce themselves and look forward to numerous visitors.

Factory tours and company presentations are on the agenda at the impressive shipyard site. Service technicians, engineers, office administrators, welders, coaters, and many other professions are being sought. Free pre-registration on the organizer’s website is requested.

The “Windanker” offshore wind farm by Iberdrola Deutschland is currently under construction and will soon be able to generate and feed large amounts of electricity into the grid. EnBW will report on 15 years of offshore operations in the Baltic Sea, and TotalEnergies Renewables is currently developing area O-2.2, 40 kilometres from the coast.

In addition to the Maritime Future Concept M.-V., the program will focus on topics relevant to the Baltic Sea expansion, including regional value creation, the maritime industry, the lifespan of offshore wind power plants, and the clearance of munitions. The focus is on collaboration for the expansion of Baltic Sea wind energy, jobs, economic growth, and cost-efficient maximisation of green energy generation. Numerous offshore wind farms will be built in the Baltic Sea, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is set to benefit from this. Thanks to the active support of the federal government for the construction of transformer platforms in Germany and the upcoming planned expansion of wind energy in the Baltic Sea, huge infrastructure projects will emerge. “Value creation on the Baltic Sea is our motivation and concern,” explain the three proactive women behind the event: Martina Köhn, Kathleen Zander (WindAdvice GmbH), and Heike Winkler (Offshore Wind Kommunikation).

About Offshore Connect: Stronger Together – Ambitious goals require ambitious and trustworthy regional cooperation. Major current challenges require innovative solutions. The Offshore Connect is more than a conference – it is a vibrant meeting point. Skilled workers meet the maritime industry and the offshore wind industry on the sea on October 16, 2025, at the Recruiting Day at Neptun Werft. The Offshore Wind Dinner on day 1 is the prelude to the Offshore Wind Conference Day on day 2. The two-day event is organised by WindAdvice GmbH and Offshore Wind Kommunikation.
