The offshore wind farm is planned to be built approximately 60 km west of Saaremaa in an innovation area suitable for the development of wind energy set by the Estonian maritime spatial plan.
All interested parties can submit competing applications for the area to the CPTRA within 60 days, i.e. no later than 30 September 2024 at 11.59 p.m. The CPTRA will carry out a conformity assessment of the competing applications on the basis of the Building Code. If the submitted applications meet all the required aspects, the entrepreneurs that submitted the applications can participate in the auction to initiate the superficies licence procedure.
According to CI Estonia Wind GmbH & Co. KG’s (German company) application for a superficies licence of 22 April 2024, up to 50 wind turbines, one substation, cables and if possible up to three hydrogen production platforms are planned to be erected on the site. The total height of the wind turbine is 350 m above the average sea level and the maximum diameter of the rotor is 320 m. Due to the changing water depths of the innovation area, a combination of monopile foundations, jacket foundations and floating foundations is likely to be applied. The total capacity of the planned offshore wind farm is up to 1000 MW. The maximum area to be encumbered by the offshore wind farm is approximately 88 km².
Before building a wind farm, an environmental impact assessment must be carried out, during which the exact number of wind turbines, parameters and the total capacity of the wind farm will be determined. The notice published regarding the intention to initiate superficies licence procedure for the Saare 1 area, together with location drawing, can be found on the website of the CPTRA.
