Baltic energy regulators have requested a three-month extension from the EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) to decide on a proposed long-term capacity calculation methodology for electricity trading. Originally due by 22 March 2025, the decision concerns a proposal submitted by transmission system operators in January.
Regulators from Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Sweden stated they need additional time to assess the methodology’s alignment with current day-ahead and intraday practices, examine technical constraints, and account for potential changes linked to Poland’s electricity balancing market reform.
Long-term capacity calculation ensures that cross-border electricity exchange can occur safely and efficiently over extended timeframes, supporting forward trading and helping market participants manage risk.
ACER is expected to respond to the extension request in May 2025.
