On Tuesday, June 3, at the construction site of the PGE Baltica base in the center of the port of Ustka, representatives of the investor, the PGE Group, PGE’s partner in the Baltica 2 project – Ørsted, the general contractor – Korporacja Budowlana DORACO, and the contract engineer – Sweco Polska, as well as government representatives, local officials, and special guests took part in the ceremonial start of construction work.

– The operational and service base, the construction of which we have just started in Ustka, will play an important role in the modern energy sector currently being built by the PGE Group, a key element of which are offshore wind farms such as Baltica 2. This investment will not only ensure the efficient operation of farms located in the Baltic Sea, but will also change the face and role of the port in Ustka, creating its new functionality and providing new jobs – said Przemysław Jastrzębski, Vice President of PGE’s Management Board for Finance. – I am convinced that our investment, thanks to a system of local suppliers and partners, will also be a stimulus for the development of the entire Pomerania region – added Jastrzębski.

Until now, Ustka has been associated in Poland mainly as a holiday resort. Thanks to the investment and, ultimately, the servicing of wind farms, the city will also begin to function outside the summer season, becoming an important point on the map of Polish wind energy and an attractive place of work for experts in this sector.

– The base in Ustka will be the operational heart of our offshore wind projects. It is here that maintenance and logistics activities for the Baltica 2 farm will be coordinated, and in the future also for subsequent offshore wind farms. This is where ongoing monitoring, scheduled inspections, and servicing of wind turbines in the Baltic Sea will be carried out – explained Bartosz Fedurek, CEO of PGE Baltica. – The base in Ustka is an excellent example of the Polish industry’s commitment to offshore wind energy projects. From the very beginning until today, over 30 entities have been involved in the project, all of them domestic. And considering the construction process itself and the subsequent long-term operation of such facilities, we can count on an even greater participation of companies from Pomerania in the entire supply chain in the future – he emphasized.

The official start of construction is an important moment in the timeline of work planned for the coming months.

– The wind is already blowing in our sails, now we are just picking up speed. Today, we are officially launching the construction and enthusiastically entering the implementation process. We are truly delighted to be involved in this offshore investment in the Baltic Sea, which is of key importance for Poland. The cooperation with PGE Baltica is an excellent opportunity to leverage the knowledge and experience of the DORACO team in the construction and modernization of complex hydrotechnical structures. Our work will contribute to the further development of the offshore sector in Poland and to the energy transition process in our country – said Radosław Jarosiewicz, Vice President of the Management Board of Korporacja Budowlana DORACO. – What’s more, as a Polish company, we are gaining additional experience that we will be able to use in activities for the development of Poland, and by cooperating with Polish companies as partners or subcontractors, we are supporting the development of domestic local content, which from a broader perspective gives impressive results. We are very proud of this – he added.

The operation and maintenance (O&M) base will be built on an area of over 2.3 ha, where the “Korab” fish processing plant used to operate years ago. It will consist of an administrative and social building, a warehouse building, a maneuvering yard, and a quay where special high-speed service vessels for transporting crews to offshore wind farms (so-called CTVs – crew transfer vessels) will moor. Green areas with a total area of approx. 5,500 sq m will be created around the base buildings. Construction is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The first wind farm to be serviced from PGE’s base in Ustka will be the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm, which PGE is building in the Baltic Sea together with the Danish company Ørsted. It is scheduled to be commissioned in 2027. In addition to its future service function, the Ustka base will serve as a support facility during the construction of this offshore farm. Teams of workers supporting the construction process will depart from Ustka.
