On the occasion of this year’s WindEnergy trade fair and following the opening of its Renewable Energies Hub in Hamburg, TotalEnergies has announced the names of the offshore wind projects that the company will develop in Germany in the North and Baltic Seas: NordSee Energies 1, NordSee Energies 2 and OstSee Energies.
The Nordsee Energies 1 (NSE1) project will be developed on the 2 GW concession N-12.1 (around 170 km from the coast), for which TotalEnergies was awarded the contract in July 2023. The Nordsee Energies 2 (NSE2) project will be developed on the 1.5 GW concession N-11.2 (around 120 km from the coast), for which TotalEnergies was awarded the contract by the Federal Network Agency in June 2024. Building on the initial results of the environmental surveys, which are being carried out jointly with neighboring wind farm developers, as well as the geophysical and geotechnical campaigns, the corresponding technical studies have started. TotalEnergies aims to develop the Nordsee Energies Hub in a unified manner, with a final investment decision for NSE1 in 2027 and for NSE2 in 2028. The first power generation is expected to take place in 2031 and 2032. TotalEnergies intends to fully exploit the synergies between both projects in order to optimize construction and operating costs.
The OstSee Energies (OSE) project will be developed on the 1 GW concession O-2.2 (around 40 km from the coast), for which TotalEnergies was awarded the contract in July 2023. Environmental surveys will be carried out jointly with neighboring wind farm developers, as with the North Sea sites. The geophysical and geotechnical campaigns and technical studies have started. The aim is to make the final investment decision in 2028 and to generate electricity for the first time in 2031.
The three projects cover a total area of 450 km² and, with a total capacity of 4.5 GW, can supply around 4.5 million households with electricity. The concessions have a term of 25 years, which can be extended to 35 years.
Antoine Becker, Managing Director Offshore Wind at TotalEnergies in Germany: “The new names were chosen to closely link the projects with TotalEnergies’ identity and to symbolize our ambitions to build a strong integrated electricity business in Germany, which is also represented by the acquisitions of Quadra Energy, one of the three leading companies in renewable electricity generation, and Kyon Energy, a leading developer of battery storage solutions. The new names and logos are intended to anchor the projects in their maritime environment and link them with TotalEnergies’ historical expertise in safe offshore operations.”
