Nordex Group has received a 56 MW order from W.E.B Windenergie AG for the Auersthal RI repowering project in the Gänserndorf district of Lower Austria. Nordex will supply and install eight N175/6.X turbines and has also signed a 25-year Premium service agreement.

The machines belong to the Delta4000 platform and each has an installed capacity of 7 MW. Nordex says the type is designed for inland sites, where it allows high yields and efficient use of existing land. Commissioning is planned for 2028.

According to Nordex, the turbines will be the first N175/6.X units installed in Austria, and with eight machines Auersthal is the largest single project the company has carried out in the country. The wind farm replaces existing turbines at the site.

“For us it is the first time that we are building turbines of this size,” said W.E.B board member Roman Prager. Karsten Brüggemann, Vice President Region Europe at Nordex, said the order shows the competitiveness of the technology in the repowering segment.

W.E.B operates plants with a combined capacity of about 700 MW and is active in Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Canada and the United States. The order is a further example of operators replacing older onshore turbines with larger machines, a trend that is also shaping the Baltic Sea states, notably Germany and Poland.
