Northland Power has closed approximately PLN 500 million (CAD 185 million) in project financing for two battery energy storage projects under construction in Poland, the Canadian company announced on 30 September. The Mieczysławów project (200 MW / 800 MWh) and the Kamionka project (100 MW / 400 MWh) together will provide 300 MW / 1.2 GWh of storage capacity.

The financing was arranged with Canadian and Polish financial institutions. Both projects have also received grants totalling about PLN 280 million (CAD 105 million) from Poland’s National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. Northland said it has already met its equity commitment for both projects. Total capital costs are estimated at around PLN 1.0 billion.

Northland acquired the two projects in November 2025 as late-stage, pre-construction assets. Commercial operations are expected in early 2028 at Kamionka and mid-2028 at Mieczysławów. Part of the revenue is contracted under 17-year inflation-indexed auction agreements, with further income expected from energy arbitrage and ancillary services.

The company expects the facilities to be among the first utility-scale standalone battery storage sites operating in Poland. Together with the Baltic Power offshore wind farm, in which Northland is also involved, they extend its footprint in the Polish market. Storage of this kind is intended to support grid reliability and help integrate Poland’s growing renewable generation.
