Boskalis has been awarded a contract by Zeevonk, the joint venture between Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, to transport and install the inter-array cable system for phase 1 of the Zeevonk offshore wind farm in the Dutch North Sea. The company described the contract as sizable, which it defines as a value of EUR 50–150 million.
The scope covers about 149 kilometres of 66 kV cables connecting 69 turbines, together with cable testing, termination and cable protection systems. Boskalis will carry the cable from the manufacturing site in Eemshaven using its cable-laying vessel BOKA Ocean, and will also carry out survey work and seabed intervention with a subsea rock installation vessel.
Engineering is due to start shortly, with offshore installation planned for 2029. Zeevonk lies about 45 nautical miles north-west of IJmuiden and will have a capacity of around 2 GW in two phases of roughly 1 GW each. Phase 1 has a planned commercial operation date in 2029.
The project is in the Dutch sector rather than the Baltic, but the contract is a data point for cable-installation capacity in the wider North Sea market, which competes with Baltic projects for vessels and cable supply.
