PGE Baltica of the PGE Group and Gdynia Maritime University have signed an agreement to continue their cooperation on postgraduate studies in offshore wind. On 4 March 2023, the inauguration of the second edition of the ‘Risk Management in the Offshore Extraction and Offshore Wind Industries’ course took place.
The degree programme at UMG is designed for technical managers of companies operating across the offshore industry – both offshore wind companies and oil & gas companies with offshore production activities. The new edition, which will consist of 210 hours of classes taught over two semesters, will be attended by 40 participants. PGE Baltica is the main partner of the studies.
– After a year since we started our didactic cooperation with Gdynia Maritime University, we can already see the results. I would like to congratulate the graduates of the first edition of the studies and at the same time wish good luck to the new group of students. The offshore wind energy market in Poland is waiting for professionals and specialists. Based on the resources of Polish universities, we want to prepare qualified personnel for offshore wind energy. High quality classes at the University have been positively received by the students and there has been great interest in the next edition. Therefore, we have decided to continue our cooperation on the implementation of these studies – said Dariusz Lociński, PGE Baltica’s Vice-President of the Management Board for Development.
– Gdynia Maritime University has been specialising in the education of future merchant fleet officers for over a hundred years. The second and very important pillar of our didactic activity is the education of specialists in the broadly understood land-based maritime economy. In recent years, Gdynia Maritime University, responding to the labour market’s needs in the offshore wind energy sector, has taken up the challenge of educating personnel for the offshore industry, including offshore wind energy. We have prepared a rich didactic offer in this field, and the emerging UMG Offshore Centre will be a research and education base for the national offshore wind energy sector – said Prof. dr hab. c.c. Professor Adam Weintrit, DSc(Eng), FRIN, FNI, MM Rector of Gdynia Maritime University. – The postgraduate course ‘Risk Management in the Offshore Extraction and Offshore Wind Industries’ conducted at the Faculty of Navigation of the UMG in cooperation with PGE Baltica is one of the forms of supporting the development of offshore wind energy. Thanks to the combination of theoretical and expert knowledge and the support of experts from the industry and our main partner of the studies – PGE Baltica, we can say with satisfaction that these studies have been a success and are receiving growing interest. Recently, the first graduates of the course received their certificates of completion and today I had the pleasure of welcoming the participants of the next edition to the walls of the UMG. Preparing the necessary personnel for this sector requires cooperation and joint ventures on the part of both universities and the energy and offshore industry. Thus, I am very pleased to continue the cooperation with PGE Baltica as the main partner of the postgraduate studies, as well as in other fields – added the Rector of Gdynia Maritime University.
Among the teaching staff are employees of Gdynia Maritime University and practitioners of the offshore industry, including PGE Baltica specialists Rafał Żendarski, senior manager for port and offshore logistics, Piotr Kubala, head of geology, and Patryk Juszkiewicz, geotechnical engineer.
