In Gdańsk, at the modern Baltic Towers plant, a ceremony was held to mark the production of the first offshore tower section in Poland – a landmark event for the domestic industry and the development of offshore wind energy. The Industrial Development Agency S.A. (ARP) was represented at the event by Vice-President Ilona Deręgowska, who emphasised the importance of the institution in building the national supply chain and supporting the energy transition. As a partner in the Baltic Towers project, the Agency plays a key role in developing the competence of the Polish offshore wind industry, thereby strengthening Poland’s position in the European economy of the future.

The ceremony was opened by Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska, who emphasised the importance of energy independence.

– Poland’s energy transition will only be safe and effective if we secure our own supply chains and develop new technologies in Europe. We cannot repeat the mistake of dependence – as we once did on Russian gas – today on other countries’ technologies. Investments in offshore wind energy, supported by the government and Polish industry, strengthen our energy independence, create momentum for the development of domestic industry and reinforce Poland’s strategic position as a key supplier of components in the European supply chain – said Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska.

The investment, worth around €200 million, is being carried out in Polish-Spanish cooperation. The Gdańsk plant is producing towers for the latest generation of offshore turbines, with a capacity of 15 MW and above.

– The development of offshore wind is a huge opportunity for Poland, not only to increase energy security, but also to develop domestic industry and new technologies. ARP consistently engages its companies and partners to ensure that industrial competences and jobs remain in the country. Baltic Towers is proof that the Polish economy can be an important link in the energy transition across Europe – said Bartłomiej Babuśka, President of the Management Board of ARP S.A.

– The opening of Baltic Towers shows that international cooperation brings real results. The investment will strengthen the local supply chain, the development of technical and scientific competences, and create new opportunities for business cooperation. This project fits perfectly with ARP’s mission to support energy transition and innovative industry in Poland – said Ilona Deręgowska, Vice-President of the Management Board of ARP S.A.

The factory’s annual production capacity reaches 150 towers, which corresponds to approximately 2,250 MW of installed capacity – the equivalent of two medium-sized nuclear power plant units. The plant has created 500 new jobs for highly qualified specialists.

– Baltic Towers gives Poland a permanent place on the map of the European offshore industry. We are already fulfilling our first orders, and the plant’s potential allows us to handle projects not only in the Baltic Sea, but also in the North Sea. Cooperation with ARP is crucial for the development of the plant and the entire supply chain – emphasised Jakub Wnuczyński, Member of the Management Board of Baltic Towers.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by representatives of the highest state and local authorities, the diplomatic world and business partners from Poland and abroad. Among the most important guests were: Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska, Pomeranian Governor Beata Rutkiewicz, Marshal of the Pomeranian Province Mieczysław Struk, Mayor of Gdańsk Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, Deputy Head of the Spanish Embassy Miguel García-Herraiz, as well as representatives of GRI Renewable Industries S.L, which is co-creating the project – President of the Management Board Jon Riberas and General Director Antonio Barbosa.

Thanks to the strategic support of ARP and the involvement of international partners, Baltic Towers has become a symbol of Poland’s new industrial strength in the field of offshore energy. The project not only strengthens the country’s energy security, but also paves the way for the development of a new branch of the economy based on innovation, cooperation and high engineering competences.

In addition to the wind tower factory, the Industrial Development Agency is implementing other measures aimed at achieving energy independence. The Baltic Industrial Group, owned by ARP S.A., manufactures mooring platforms for service vessels and anode cages to protect tower foundations. These components will be installed, among others, at the Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm, one of the largest offshore investments in Europe.
