Scatec is entering the onshore wind market in Romania, adding a new technology and a new country to a portfolio built largely on solar. The Norwegian developer reported second-quarter power production up 21 per cent year on year.
Romania has become one of the more active renewables markets in central and eastern Europe, with substantial wind resource in Dobrogea on the Black Sea coast and a grid undergoing reinforcement. Scatec’s move follows a pattern among developers of pairing established solar positions with wind to smooth generation profiles within a single market.
The company was among the stronger performers in the RENIXX renewable energy index during the reporting period, gaining 7.2 per cent to EUR 9.06.
For the Baltic states and Poland the relevance is competitive. Developers with Nordic capital that until recently concentrated on solar in southern and eastern Europe are broadening into wind, which increases the number of bidders for grid capacity and permitted sites across the wider region.
