Developer VSB has completed the expansion of the Vockenrod wind farm in Hesse with the commissioning of its second new turbine, bringing the site to five machines and a total capacity of 28.5 MW.
The expansion added two Nordex N149-5.X turbines with a combined 11.4 MW. The first phase, three identical turbines totalling 17.1 MW, had gone into operation in spring 2024. Foundation work was finished in 2024, with the towers erected and components installed the following year; the rotor blades were moved into the site at night using a self-propelled “bladelifter” from the Alsfeld-Ost motorway junction. Both new turbines went online in the first half of 2026.
VSB says the completed wind farm will deliver a projected net annual yield of around 63.1 million kWh, equivalent to the consumption of roughly 19,700 households, and avoid about 47,300 tonnes of CO2 a year. “The completion underlines our ability to deliver demanding wind projects reliably,” said Thomas Winkler, managing director of VSB Deutschland.
VSB, based in Dresden, became part of TotalEnergies in 2025. Incremental expansions like Vockenrod — adding turbines to an existing site — are a quiet but steady contributor to Germany’s onshore build-out, the largest in the Baltic-rim region.
