Mainz-based project developer wiwi consult has won support for three solar projects totalling 80 MW in the Bundesnetzagentur’s July photovoltaic tender and says it will concentrate future development on hybrid projects that combine wind, solar and battery storage on one site.
Every project the company entered into the July round received an award, making it the largest single tender result in the developer’s eleven-year history. A further 45 MW of solar capacity is already under construction.
On the wind side, four projects with a combined 20 turbines are currently being built, with construction on five more due to start in the coming months. By 2027 the company expects to have nine wind projects with a total of around 180 MW in parallel construction. Three projects are scheduled to be commissioned before the end of this year. “This full project pipeline is the result of our work over the past few years,” said managing director Michael Böhm. “Delivering nine projects in parallel presents challenges for us as a team that we are happy to take on.”
The company has also moved into stand-alone storage. It plans to build four battery installations in 2027, each rated at 10 MW with 40 MWh of capacity, and says grid connection commitments are in place for all of them. Going forward, wiwi consult intends to make battery storage a standard element in the planning of every new wind and solar project, a shift it describes as a response to changing market conditions and a way of reducing exposure to short-term political decisions.
Founded in 2016, wiwi consult develops and operates wind, solar and storage projects with a total pipeline of around 2,000 MW in Germany, elsewhere in Europe and in South America. Its core market is south-western Germany. The company will present its plans at WindEnergy Hamburg from 22 to 25 September.
