Nordex Group has won a 34 MW order from EEF Erneuerbare Energien Fabrik GmbH for the Rauschenberg wind farm in Hesse, central Germany. The manufacturer will supply and install five N175/6.X turbines on 199-metre towers, together with a 20-year premium service contract.

The order is a repowering project. Five existing 3 MW turbines will be replaced by 6.8 MW machines, keeping the number of turbines at the site unchanged while more than doubling installed capacity. Delivery and installation are scheduled from the end of 2027, with the new turbines expected to start generating in summer 2028.

The 199-metre hub height is the point of the project. At that elevation the 175-metre rotor reaches stronger and steadier winds than the turbines it replaces, which raises annual output and improves yield during low-wind periods, an important consideration at inland sites such as Hesse. Nordex received its first order for N175/6.X turbines at the same hub height in March 2026, for a project in North Rhine-Westphalia.

“The Rauschenberg project is an example of the next generation of wind energy. Through repowering we can generate significantly more renewable electricity at an established site, bring agriculture and renewables together and make an important contribution to regional energy supply,” said Lukas Jörgens, project manager for Rauschenberg at EEF.

Karsten Brüggemann, Vice President Region Europe at Nordex Group, said the order showed “the potential that modern repowering projects open up for a faster energy transition and more efficient use of existing sites,” adding that the N175/6.X on 199-metre towers “enables very high energy yields even at inland locations” and that demand for the company’s turbines in Germany remained high.

EEF, based in Berlin, Hamburg and Mainz, develops wind, solar and storage projects in Germany with the aim of holding them in its own portfolio, and says it plans to invest more than EUR 1 billion in the coming years. Nordex Group, headquartered in Hamburg, has installed more than 64 GW of wind capacity in over 40 markets since 1985 and reported group revenue of around EUR 7.6 billion in 2025. Its product range focuses on onshore turbines in the 4 to 7 MW+ classes.

For the German market, the Rauschenberg order fits a wider trend: with land for new wind farms scarce, repowering older sites with far larger turbines on very tall towers has become one of the main levers for adding onshore capacity, and German manufacturers are competing on hub height as much as on rotor size.
