Energiequelle GmbH has commissioned a new wind turbine at Danna in Brandenburg, expanding the neighbouring Feldheim wind farm. The Enercon E-138 EP3 E3 machine has a rated capacity of 4.26 MW and a hub height of 160 metres.
The turbine is expected to generate around 9,000 MWh a year, which the company says corresponds to the annual consumption of roughly 2,600 to 2,700 three-person households. Because the project densifies an existing wind farm, no additional land is designated for wind energy; the site uses the area already earmarked for turbines.
Feldheim, a village south-west of Berlin, is known in Germany as an energy self-sufficient community. Energiequelle developed the local wind, solar, biogas and storage assets there some 15 years ago, and the company remains rooted in the area.
“The planning process ran almost without friction. Energiequelle’s strong roots in Feldheim clearly show their effect in the trust that all project partners have in each other,” said Matthias Tamm, project manager at Energiequelle, referring to cooperation with permitting authorities, landowners and residents.
Founded in 1997, the owner-managed Energiequelle develops, builds and operates wind and solar plants, substations and energy storage in Europe and South Africa, and has connected more than 850 installations to the grid so far. The Danna turbine follows the company’s Krummensee project, also in Brandenburg, which it commissioned earlier this year after a lengthy permitting process. Densifying and repowering existing sites has become a key route to onshore growth in Germany as new land for wind farms grows scarce.
