A German electrical services company has secured formal certification for a grid controller it developed in-house, a component used to connect wind, solar and hybrid power plants to the grid.

energy grid service GmbH, based in Bremen, said it has received the final component certificate for its EZA controller, the P6-EnergyControlSystem 3.1, under the German grid codes VDE-AR-N 4110 and VDE-AR-N 4120. The certification clears the controller for use in generation plants connected to the medium- and high-voltage grid.

The EZA controller sits between a generation plant and the grid operator, managing active and reactive power at the grid connection point. It processes setpoints and feedback signals and coordinates the different generation units within a plant. The company said the system is manufacturer-independent and can be used in wind farms, photovoltaic installations and hybrid or mixed parks, bringing different turbine makers, park controllers and communication interfaces into a single control scheme.

The certificate confirms that the controller meets the requirements of the VDE application rules 4110 and 4120, and it is already listed in ZEREZ, the central register for unit and component certificates run by FGW e.V. For developers and operators, a certified controller provides a ready basis for the wider plant certification that grid connection projects require.

“This certification is more than a formal proof for us,” said Oliver Klausch, managing director of energy grid service. “It confirms the technical standard we set for our products and is the result of several years of development work by our team.”

The independent service provider focuses on electrical infrastructure for new energy projects in Germany and employs around 130 people across four sites. Grid connection and control technology of this kind is central to integrating the growing volume of wind and solar capacity across Germany and the wider Baltic region.
