Energiequelle has put a new wind farm into operation in the municipalities of Loop and Schönbek in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district of Schleswig-Holstein. The five Nordex N149 turbines have a combined capacity of 28.5 MW and, according to the company, will supply the equivalent of around 20,000 households and avoid roughly 27,000 tonnes of CO₂ a year.
The turbines have hub heights of 125 metres and stand on two priority areas designated in the regional wind energy plan for Schleswig-Holstein. The permit was granted in September 2023 and the Bundesnetzagentur awarded the project a feed-in tariff in December 2023. Construction began in August 2025; the company said the build phases were demanding because of an unusually harsh winter.
The farm operates with an anti-collision system. Two camera systems track the flight of red kites and white-tailed eagles, and the affected turbines shut down automatically when a collision risk arises.
Energiequelle paid €175,000 per turbine, or €875,000 in total, into the Energiequelle Stiftung. The money is available for 20 years to the municipalities of Loop, Schönbek and Mühbrook and to non-profit associations, with a regional panel deciding how it is spent. Residents were also offered a savings product open from €500, with a fixed interest rate of five per cent over five years.
“We are convinced that the project is not only economically strong but will also give a lasting boost to the region and the energy transition,” said Eva Sommer, team leader for project management at Energiequelle. The company, based in Kallinchen near Berlin, has been active in renewables since 1997 and says it has connected more than 850 turbines.
