On 22 August, the Pomeranian Voivodship Office in Gdansk announced that the Pomeranian Voivode Beata Rutkiewicz had issued a building permit for the construction of a new T5 offshore terminal in the Port of Gdansk. It will be built in the outer waters of the port and serve as a base for offshore wind power installations.

The Voivode’s decision covers a wide range of works related to construction, reconstruction and demolition within the newly designed T5 container terminal. Among other things, the project includes construction of a loading quay, shoreline enclosure, construction of fender and mooring dories, creation of storage yards and communication and parking areas.

In addition, the permit also includes works related to the reconstruction of existing installations, such as cable ducts, teletechnical network or rainwater drainage systems, which is connected with the planned demolition of the shore breakwater, manoeuvring yards and access roads. The project also includes demolition of infrastructure elements at the existing T1 terminal, including shoreline enclosure, mooring dugouts, roads and parts of the electrical and teletechnical installations.

The T5 terminal, according to Istrana (the Baltic Hub’s special purpose vehicle), is to provide a base for offshore wind power installations. It will be an extension of the existing T1 terminal, located in the waters of the outer part of the Port of Gdansk on the Gulf of Gdansk. In order to realise this project, it is planned to cover an offshore area of approximately 21 hectares.

The new terminal is to be equipped with mooring quays, which will enable reception of components delivered by ships and their export by installation vessels to wind farms. The construction of a Ro-Ro ramp is also planned, which will significantly facilitate the logistics involved in assembly and transport of finished wind turbine assemblies.
