During a meeting with the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin (PUM), a global leader in offshore wind energy Ørsted pledged substantive support for the creation of a new postgraduate course on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in the Offshore Sector. With over 30 years of experience in offshore investment development, Ørsted has developed world-class occupational health and safety standards, which it intends to pass on to staff in the Polish market. This initiative is an important step in educating future health and safety professionals and will be available from the 2024/2025 academic year.
The degree programme in Occupational Health and Safety in the Offshore Sector is aimed at people who want to develop their competences in this area. Ørsted, the course’s content partner, has also envisaged funding scholarships in a competition format. More will soon be announced at www.orsted.pl.
– We have enthusiastically welcomed the initiative to create a new course of study. At Ørsted, we recognise the need to develop a comprehensive educational offer for the future workforce of the offshore wind sector. We believe that our involvement will help create an attractive programme that will attract the best talent. The offshore sector is an important pillar of the country’s industrial policy, so it is crucial to invest in human resource development. We are convinced that partnerships such as ours are essential to achieve ambitious goals. Together we can shape the future of the Polish offshore industry – says Joanna Wis-Bielewicz, Market Development Director at Ørsted Offshore Poland.
– Expanding its offer of postgraduate education, the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin is planning to recruit for the course Occupational Health and Safety in the Offshore Sector to meet the expectations of those wishing to broaden their competences in the above-mentioned field. Cooperation with such excellent partners, active in the wind energy sector, makes this degree programme unique on a national scale and will enable the development of specialised and practical knowledge – said Prof. Beata Karakiewicz, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, PUM.
Among the substantive partners of the new course of study are also the companies Dräger and FairWind.
By 2030, Poland will have the first offshore wind power plants with a total capacity of 5.9 GW, including investments jointly realised by Ørsted and PGE with a total capacity of 2.5 GW. The scale of development of the offshore industry creates a huge potential on the labour market and opens up new opportunities to shape competencies among personnel involved in the construction and management of offshore wind farms. Ørsted, cooperating with more than 50 universities and adawing institutes worldwide, brings innovative solutions and high standards to the entire offshore value chain. The Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin joins Ørsted’s partners in supporting the development of offshore wind energy education.
