Qualitas Energy has begun construction on the repowering of the Ingstetten wind farm in Baden-Württemberg, replacing five ageing turbines with six modern Enercon E-175 machines.
The site sits in the municipality of Ingstetten, around 35 kilometres south-west of Ulm. Five existing NEG Micon NM 48 turbines, along with their foundations, crane pads and access roads, are being fully removed and replaced by six Enercon E-175 units of 7 MW each, giving the wind farm a total capacity of 42 MW. A symbolic ground-breaking on 29 July brought together local and regional figures, including Michael Joukov, a member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament.
“By replacing older turbines with modern, more powerful technology we significantly increase efficiency, make better use of the available wind resource and strengthen regional energy supply,” said Christopher Koller, Qualitas Energy project manager for Ingstetten. Commissioning of all six turbines is expected by the end of 2027, after which the site should generate enough electricity for around 28,000 households a year.
Qualitas Energy runs a portfolio of more than 100 wind projects in Germany, with over 1 GW in construction or operation. The Ingstetten build is a reminder that in a mature market like Germany — the largest around the Baltic — much of the near-term capacity growth will come from repowering constrained sites rather than opening new ones.
