VSB Deutschland has commissioned the second turbine of its Vockenrod wind farm expansion in Hesse, completing the project on schedule. The site now runs five turbines with a combined installed capacity of 28.5 MW.
The expansion added two Nordex N149-5.X turbines with a combined 11.4 MW. The first construction stage, three identical turbines totalling 17.1 MW, went into full operation in spring 2024. Following foundation work in 2024, the two new towers were erected the following year and connected to the grid in the first half of 2026. The rotor blades were delivered at night using a self-propelled blade-lifter from a transhipment point at the Alsfeld-Ost motorway junction.
VSB puts the expanded wind farm’s projected net annual output at around 63.1 million kWh, equivalent to the demand of roughly 19,700 households, and estimates it will avoid about 47,300 tonnes of CO₂ a year. “The completion underlines our ability to deliver demanding wind projects reliably and to create regional value that communities benefit from over the long term,” said Thomas Winkler, managing director of VSB Deutschland.
Dresden-based VSB, part of TotalEnergies since 2025, develops onshore wind and solar parks and battery storage across six European countries and reports a project pipeline of more than 20 GW.
