“This year may prove decisive for our security and must become a year of full solidarity among Polish women and men, as well as among politicians, around the issue of security. When it comes to security, there is only one party – Poland,” said Prime Minister Donald Tusk in his address during the first “Science for Business” Congress. The head of government appealed to the Polish political class to refrain in the coming year from quarrels and political skirmishes. He reminded that Poland will be safe only if all of us, without exception, serve the security of our state. Recent events involving acts of sabotage on the railways, the hybrid war conducted by Russia, and the armed conflict in Ukraine show how important unity should be for all Poles. In this context, science and business must also act hand in hand, because modern conflicts are decided not only on the battlefield, but also in cyberspace and in outer space.
Business and science for Poland’s security
Prime Minister Donald Tusk participated in the opening of the first edition of the “Science for Business” Congress, organized by the Łukasiewicz Research Network and initiated by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
“I would like the ‘Science for Business’ congress to carry the motto: ‘Science and business for Poland’s security.’ You — practical people, people of business and research — do not like to abstract from facts. Today everyone in Poland, without exception, wakes up and goes to sleep with one thought: is Poland safe now, and will it be safe in the future?”– said Prime Minister Tusk addressing the participants.
The discussion on security takes on a particular dimension in the context of the events happening across our eastern border, as well as Russia’s hybrid warfare.
“We are facing a special year – 2026. Special because I have reasons to believe that it may be a decisive year for the war between Ukraine and Russia, for Poland’s strategic security, and for the future of our nation and our state,”
– said the head of government.
Polish citizens feel the consequences of the war and of receiving a large number of refugees, which in turn creates tensions, as it does across all of Europe. That is why it is important to develop common solutions to prevent these tensions.
2026 must be the year of ceasefire
According to the Prime Minister, Poland will be safe only when everyone, without exception, serves the security of our state. In his speech, he presented five principles for the Polish political class.
The first is that no one may attack Polish services, the Polish army, or the actions securing our border, regardless of political views.
The second principle — directed at politicians — is to stop repeating Russian propaganda.
“This absolutely must end. It is not difficult, it does not require detailed analysis. You simply need to have your eyes open, use common sense and patriotism to distinguish what is Russian propaganda and disinformation,”
– said Donald Tusk.
Third, political sabotage of legislative actions — such as vetoes or endless parliamentary quarrels — must end.
“It cannot be that for party interests or due to some political ambitions or aspirations, some will block the actions of others. Legislative and parliamentary sabotage cannot take place, at least for this one year,”
– appealed the Prime Minister.
Fourth, anyone engaged in politics, including foreign policy, who speaks publicly must have no doubt that we are aligned with the West and the European Union, not with Russia. We must not undermine our membership in the EU.
The final point concerns the war between Russia and Ukraine — in this conflict, Poland stands on the side of Ukraine.
Talks with President Zelensky on acts of sabotage in Poland
Prime Minister Donald Tusk also referred to the recent acts of sabotage on the railway line between Warsaw and Lublin.
“A moment ago I spoke with President Zelensky about what happened in Poland — about the acts of sabotage and about the fact that it is the joint task of Poland and Ukraine to prevent, eliminate, and identify threats resulting from this modus operandi for which Russia is known, not only in Poland,”
– said the Prime Minister.
Poland expects the immediate transfer of all data that will help identify threats stemming from cooperation between Russian intelligence services and certain Ukrainian citizens. In line with President Zelensky’s commitment, Polish and Ukrainian railway services will cooperate closely.
Our security depends on the success of Polish scientists
Modern conflicts are not limited to frontline operations. Their outcomes largely depend on the technological capabilities of states — from drones, satellite systems, and the use of artificial intelligence, to the level of cybersecurity.
“The war is decided not only directly on the front. It is above all decided in laboratories, research facilities, factories, and micro-enterprises. Our security will directly depend on the successes of Polish scientists and Polish entrepreneurs,”
– stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
The head of government reminded that Poland funds Ukraine’s access to Starlink services, being fully aware of their crucial role on the front.
The Prime Minister also expressed appreciation for the work of Polish specialists, including astronaut Sławosz Uznański, who — as he emphasized — actively supports the development of Polish space competencies and cooperates with the government.
