The Nordergründe offshore wind farm is the world’s first offshore wind farm equipped with a fully functional, officially approved Aircraft Detection Lighting Systems – ADLS. Deutsche Windtechnik has already upgraded all turbines at the offshore wind farm to its proprietary transponder-based ADLS system in May 2022 and now, relevant authorities have issued an operating permit. This makes Nordergründe the world’s first offshore wind farm with light emissions kept to a minimum. Deutsche Windtechnik’s comprehensive experience makes it a reliable partner for other operators, required by law to retrofit their offshore wind farms with ADLS by the end of 2023.
“The installation of our ADLS at the Nordergründe offshore wind farm went smoothly”, said Jens Landwehr, Managing Director of Deutsche Windtechnik’s offshore unit. “We had equipped two turbines with our ADLS and test-run them in the previous months, so we were very well prepared and able to equip the remaining sixteen turbines in a short period of time. We completed up to two turbines every working day.”
All project-related services were performed and supervised by offshore service teams and staff from Deutsche Windtechnik’s Technical Controlling, Technical Support and Control Systems departments, including the delivery of the ADLS system, its installation, the upgrade of warning lights, the entire range of offshore logistics and support during approval procedures. Jens Landwehr said: “Our internal processes for installing our ADLS on offshore wind farms have now proven themselves in a real-world scenario. This makes us a pioneer in the global offshore market and puts us in an ideal position to retrofit ADLS to other offshore wind farms”.
A few days ago, EnBW admitted that they will also retrofit the Baltic 1 and Baltic 2 wind farms in the Baltic Sea to minimize light pollution and energy consumption.
