Etha, Sitowise, and Pondera have formed a strategic alliance to enhance the development of offshore wind projects in Finland. This partnership aims to deliver a wide range of services across the entire project lifecycle, offering expert solutions to bring Finnish offshore wind projects to the market.

The collaboration brings together the distinct expertise of each company to address the various challenges of offshore wind development. Sitowise, a leading Nordic consultancy in the built environment, brings extensive experience in environmental studies and constructability solutions tailored to Finland’s offshore wind conditions. Etha, known for its techno-commercial wind power development services, has a strong presence in Finland, particularly in managing local stakeholder relationships. Meanwhile, Pondera boasts a vast international track record, covering the full life cycle of offshore wind projects from early-stage planning to tendering and construction.

The combined forces of these three companies enable them to offer a wide array of services that cover the entire offshore wind project lifecycle. This includes renewable energy policy analysis, environmental, technical, and commercial studies, as well as support for tender management and bidding processes. As trusted advisors, they aim to guide offshore wind developers through every phase of their projects, from concept development to the project’s end of life.

Strategic Cooperation to Benefit Customers

Ben Talus Losvik, Business Development Manager at Etha, emphasizes the importance of this collaboration, stating: “This cooperation helps us offer tailored solutions to our customers and implement their strategies successfully. The cooperation also strengthens the partners’ position as a leading consultancy group by being able to provide extensive offshore wind services in the Finnish market.

The timing of this partnership aligns with significant legislative developments in Finland. In its plenary session on October 3rd, the Finnish government decided to submit a government proposal to Parliament for legislation on offshore wind power in the exclusive economic zone.

According to Renewables Finland, swift progress on this legislation could pave the way for competitive bidding on offshore wind power areas, enabling Finland to realize substantial national and local economic benefits. From the perspective of advancing domestic offshore wind construction, the government’s proposal is a positive step. However, given the competitive landscape in the Nordic region, quick action is essential.

According to a study we commissioned last year, the offshore wind power projects planned in Finland in the spring of 2023 could generate over 200,000 person-years of employment and €4.5 billion in tax revenue throughout their lifecycle. To realize this benefit, it is essential that Finland quickly advances the development and construction of offshore wind power projects in the exclusive economic zone. This would also enable investments in domestic supply chains noted Renewables Finland.
