Poland’s offshorewind industry is gaining momentum – especially in the context of implementing major projects such as Baltica 2, which has just entered the onshore construction phase. At the Offshore Wind Poland 2024 conference, organised by the Polish Wind Energy Association, sector leaders, including PGE Baltica, discussed progress in offshore wind development, key challenges and the importance of collaboration for the further development of the industry as a whole.
Project development in challenging times
During one of the panel discussions, Bartosz Fedurek, CEO of PGE Baltica, gave an update on the Baltica 2 project, which is being developed jointly with Ørsted.
– In our most advanced project, Baltica 2, we have already started the construction of the onshore part. At the same time, we are developing offshore in demanding times of global challenges. That is why we are betting on even closer cooperation between investors, industry partners and administrations. Cooperation is more valuable than rivalry, and engagement is key to the development of the entire industry – emphasised the PGE Baltica CEO.
Fedurek took part in the panel, which also featured Agata Staniewska-Bolesta, Jarosław Broda and Michał Jerzy Kołodziejczyk, representing a wide range of entities involved in the development of the Polish offshore wind sector.
Priorities: health, safety and quality
During a panel on QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, Environment) standards, Bartosz Fedurek highlighted the paramount importance of health and safety in the offshore industry.
– This is evidenced by the creation of a new Health and Safety Office at PGE Baltica, which will look at implementing best practice in this area – Fedurek said.
Kate Harvey, Head of G+ Global Offshore Wind Health and Safety Organisation, an international organisation promoting uniform safety standards, also participated in the discussion. PGE Baltica was the first Polish organisation to join this prestigious group, confirming its commitment to building a safety culture in the sector.
Support for partners and bidders
As part of the event, PGE Baltica organised a procurement workshop where Alicja Wąsowicz and Piotr Gowik presented the company’s procurement strategy. The experts answered questions about tenders, discussed the most common errors in documents submitted by bidders and announced the publication of the 2025 procurement plan in January.
