The German Offshore Wind Energy Association (BWO) is hosting an online talk on the European Commission’s proposed revision of the EU Emissions Trading System and its implications for the offshore wind supply chain. The session is scheduled for 26 August 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 CEST, via Zoom.
The Commission’s mid-July proposals to reform the ETS carry particular weight for the steel industry, which supplies the foundations, towers and other key components of offshore wind farms. The BWO frames a competitive European steel sector as central to the resilience of the offshore wind supply chain, and the discussion will focus on how the proposed ETS-1 changes could affect steel procurement, investment and the competitiveness of European suppliers.
Confirmed speakers include Dr Peter Liese, a member of the European Parliament for the CDU and a long-standing EPP group expert on emissions trading, and Korbinian Ott of Steelwind Nordenham, who will offer a political and an industrial perspective respectively. According to the organiser, MEP Michael Bloss of the Greens and a representative of Salzgitter AG have also been invited.
For the Baltic Sea region, where offshore wind build-out depends on secure access to steel and other heavy components, the debate over emissions-trading rules is closely tied to supply-chain and industrial policy. Registration is open via the BWO. The association is led by managing director Stefan Thimm and is based in Berlin.
