The Port of Łeba will become more friendly to the offshore sector – modernization will be completed in 15 months
The Maritime Office in Gdynia has signed an agreement for the implementation of the task entitled “Reconstruction of the entrance to the port in Łeba”, which is part of the project “Construction of an offshore marine service terminal in Łeba”. The investment, co-financed by the National Reconstruction and Resilience Improvement Plan, amounts to approximately PLN 132 million gross and is to be completed by August 2026.
The aim of the project is to reduce the phenomenon of waves at the entrance to the port and inside its basin, as well as to reduce sand accumulation. The DORACO Construction Corporation, the general contractor of the investment, will prepare the design documentation and perform construction works.
– The current infrastructure of the port in Łeba does not meet the requirements necessary to service offshore wind farms. The main problems are shallow water and excessive waves inside the port during storms. The implementation of this project will eliminate these inconveniences, increasing safety and improving working conditions for all port users, including, importantly, the Maritime Search and Rescue Service. I would like to thank the entire team of the Maritime Office in Gdynia for their hard work and dedication, which led to the signing of today’s agreement. All the more so because the project was not easy and we had a limited time to prepare it – said Anna Stelmaszyk-Świerczyńska, Director of the Maritime Office in Gdynia.
SCOPE OF RECONSTRUCTION
The reconstruction of the entrance to the Port of Łeba will include, among others, the construction of a new, eastern island breakwater with a length of approximately 260 meters, the extension of the western breakwater with a length of approximately 91 meters and groynes on the western side. New settling ponds, a 40-meter-wide approach channel and a turntable with a diameter of 160 meters will also be built. Modern navigation markings for the entire water area will also be installed.
– Today’s signing of the agreement and the fact that in 65 weeks we will build 3 hydrotechnical facilities, perform dredging works and navigation lighting is not a coincidence; it is the sum of over 30 years of DORACO experience and the knowledge of our experts, who knew how to meet the expectations and needs of the investor – emphasized Angelika Cieślowska, President of the Management Board of the DORACO Construction Corporation. – We have built human and technological resources that implement our strategy of presence in offshore projects, and the reconstruction of the entrance to the Port of Łeba is another one of them. DORACO is currently present in projects on the entire Polish coast, supporting Poland’s energy transformation from the general contracting side. Thanks to this, servicing the needs of offshore wind farms will be comfortable and safe from the land side. What we build or modernize in ports will work for the implementation of projects in the Baltic Sea!
ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY AND PROTECTION
In preparation for construction work, all ferromagnetic objects – especially potentially dangerous military remnants – will be located, removed and disposed of. The entire investment will be carried out under archaeological supervision and in accordance with the environmental decision and the highest environmental protection standards.
In the “design and build” system, DORACO will develop all necessary designs and documentation. The agreement also includes the preparation of the concept for the second stage of the port reconstruction, including the expansion of the external port with an extended eastern breakwater connected to the mainland.
