Germany’s central register for unit and component certificates, ZEREZ, has expanded its scope to cover certificates with grid-forming properties for the instantaneous reserve market. Manufacturers and certification bodies can now upload and manage such certificates, the operator FGW e.V. said.
Since 1 June 2026 the register accepts certificates meeting the requirements of the VDE FNN guidance version 2.1 on technical requirements for grid-forming properties, including the provision of instantaneous reserve. The change applies to certificates in the medium, high and extra-high voltage ranges under VDE-AR-N 4110, 4120 and 4130.
FGW describes the move as a direct response to the launch of the instantaneous reserve market and the publication of the updated VDE FNN guidance. All registered values remain available through the digital interface, so grid operators, certification bodies and other market players can continue to retrieve the data automatically.
Grid-forming capability is increasingly important as wind and solar displace conventional plants that once provided system inertia. For Baltic grids integrating high shares of renewables, common certification frameworks like ZEREZ help standardise how that capability is documented and verified.
