Dr Frank May, chief executive of German onshore wind developer Alterric GmbH, will leave the company when his current contract ends on 31 March 2027. May has told the supervisory board and Alterric’s two shareholders, EWE AG and the Aloys Wobben Stiftung (AWS), that he is not available for a contract extension for personal reasons.
Both shareholders said they accepted the decision with regret and respect and thanked May for his work. Stefan Dohler, chief executive of EWE AG, said May had played a major part in building up Alterric and positioning it as a strong player in the market. Heiko Janssen, chief executive of AWS, said that under May’s leadership Alterric had developed from a pure wind power producer into a system actor in Germany’s renewables-based energy system.
May said building Alterric had been a demanding entrepreneurial task and that he was grateful for the trust and cooperation of the shareholders and the team. No successor has been named in the announcement.
Alterric, based in Aurich, develops, plans, operates and markets onshore wind and hybrid parks, mainly in Germany, France and Greece. According to the company, it operates more than 2,500 megawatts of installed capacity in its own portfolio and has a project pipeline of more than 11,000 megawatts. It employs more than 600 people at 19 sites and is a joint venture of the Aloys Wobben Stiftung and EWE AG.
For readers around the Baltic Sea, the change concerns one of the larger German onshore wind operators, with its home market on the southern Baltic and North Sea coast. The transition leaves roughly five months for the shareholders to settle the succession.
